You might have called it a toned-down, Texas version of a Mexican mojiganga parade: a mariachi band filled University Park streets with music; a Monvieve cathedral-length veil billowed in the wind; rose petals fluttered; and a procession of 300 strolled from Highland Park Presbyterian Church to a Spanish colonial home where white azalea bushes and servers with silver trays holding coupes of Champagne lined the sidewalk.
The spring stroll was led by Trevor Tamlyn and Haley Hall, newly husband and wife, and ended at Haley’s childhood home, where she’d hoped to celebrate her wedding since she was young. “Getting married at my parents’ house was a dream I always had in my mind,” she says. “For Trevor and I to walk up the lawn to my house—it was amazing.”
Haley met Trevor, one year her senior, at the University of Texas, though they didn’t date until after he graduated. There was little question from the onset that they would end up together, with their complementary personalities and mutual respect. “We’re always on the same page and can be ourselves with each other,” Haley says.
Five years later, Trevor proposed at sunset on the rooftop of the Peninsula New York hotel during a last-minute trip to New York City. “It was a perfect setting,” says Haley, who thought it special that he popped the question in the same city where her grandparents and parents got engaged. Following the proposal, they ate at The River Café in Brooklyn, the very restaurant where Haley’s father asked for her mother’s hand in marriage. “I was completely surprised,” Haley says of Trevor’s intentional itinerary.
Sweet surprises would punctuate their wedding day, too, thanks to Haley’s wedding planner: her mother, Michelle Hall. An exceptional hostess with a love of entertaining, she had no shortage of ideas. When interior designer Gloria Nicoud suggested emphasizing the home’s architecture, Michelle worked with Cesar Diaz of Bella Flora of Dallas to highlight every arch—from front yard to courtyard to backyard—with floral or greenery. Michelle drew further inspiration from her home’s original mission tile and had the pattern replicated in soft gray and white for the dance floor. The same motif was imprinted on the custom cocktail bar, which wrapped around a centuries-old oak tree filled with Spanish-inspired candle lanterns that Cesar strung. The classic wedding cake, provided by Vera’s Panaderia—a bakery the family treasures—was placed on an antique Spanish table, and hundreds of lights filled the clear tent positioned along the terra-cotta tile roofline. “Haley was specific about her flowers, the tent, and lights, and I was specific about the china, the ambiance, details, and the music,” Michelle says. “She made my ideas come to life,” Haley says.
Then came the surprises. Michelle secretly arranged for the mariachi band, the Champagne at the entry, and a specialty cocktail called the Tamlyn Twist, featuring fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and tequila garnished with an edible flower served via a custom ice luge. She worked with Wolfgang Puck chefs on liquid-nitrogen desserts that were set on fire and arranged for churro doughnuts to be made onsite by Lil’ Bits Mini Donuts for the guests’ departure. “There were so many surprises I wasn’t expecting,” Haley says. “Everything that was so special was my mom’s idea. It was beautiful, traditional, and romantic.”
