Diana Scharffenberger and Matthew Koch Say “I Do” in a Winter Wonderland-esque Celebration

Diana Scharffenberger and Matthew Koch’s love story began where all true love stories begin: at a fraternity. In the Lambda Chi house at the University of Oklahoma, Matt crossed the room to sit next to Diana, which they both agree was love at first sight. “Ever since that moment, we were pretty inseparable,” says Diana.

Despite never dating and moving to different cities upon graduation, the two maintained their close friendship. A few years later, the stars aligned when fate brought Matt to Dallas. “Before we let any more time go by, we started dating,” says Diana. “After that, it was pretty obvious to both of us that we never wanted to be apart again.”

With a year of dating under their belt, Matt asked Diana to be his wife on January 2, 2018. It was a chilly winter’s day in California and Matt got down on one knee at a resort in Ranchos Palos Verdes overlooking the ocean. “It was the most fairytale-like moment of my life,” reminisces the bride.

The couple gave themselves 365 days to plan their nuptials, opting for a January 2019 wedding. Diana’s grand vision for the wedding was the color white, so to get inspired, she began seeking out the most classically white element of a wedding: the dress. After trying on multiple options—and with the help of her mother, mother-in-law, and a few of her bridesmaids—Diana settled on a romantic, off-the-shoulder gown from Bridal Boutique of Lewisville. Diana speaks for all brides when she says: “I still wish there was another occasion I could wear it!”

After choosing her dress, Diana decided to keep the ball rolling with the color when it came to designing the wedding. “Our whole house is white, I love wearing white, and now that I think about it, even both of our dogs are white,” exclaims the bride. To keep with her vision of a classic and traditional wedding, the color appeared within every aspect of the event, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the reception linens.

Ringing in the new year right, Diana and Matt wed at Perkins Chapel on January 19, 2019. Aside from the ceremony, one of Diana’s most-cherished moments of her big day took place before actually tying the knot: getting ready at the Adolphus. “I mean, what’s better than champagne, best friends, and getting dolled up for the best day of your life?” asks the bride.

The dreamy Adolphus Hotel also hosted Matt and Diana’s joyous reception. After the newlyweds’ first dance to Elvis’ classic, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” guests took to dancing with drinks in hand. Thirty minutes before the bride and groom’s exit, a hidden snow machine pumped a glistening snowfall over the dance floor, completing Diana’s wish for a whimsical, white wedding.
